Alison Pick is the author of the Man Booker nominated novel Far to Go and the best-selling memoir Between Gods. She won the Canadian Jewish Book Award in both the fiction and non-fiction categories and was the winner of the Bronwen Wallace Award for best Canadian writer under 35. She is on faculty at the Humber School for Writers and was at work on her third novel during her time at MacDowell. At MacDowell in 2019, she completed the second draft of a new novel, The Bluebird of Happiness.

Alison Pick worked in the MacDowell studio.

Built in 1912, Pine Studio was renamed MacDowell Studio in 1943 in recognition of support from a group of Edward MacDowell’s music students. It was built as a composers’ studio and the stuccoed walls were intended to be soundproof.
