Dagny Olsen Carter (?-1970) was a writer. With her husband, Thomas Carter, she lived and travelled extensively in China. She wrote such books as China Magnificent: Five Thousand Years of Chinese Art (Reynal & Hitchcock, 1935) and The Symbol of the Beast: The Animal-Style Art of Eurasia (Ronald Press, 1957).

Dagny Carter worked in the Wood studio.

Wood Studio, given to the residency program by Mrs. Frederick Trevor Hill, was completed in 1913 in memory of Mrs. Hill’s mother, Helen Ogden Wood. Like Schelling Studio, the building is sided with large, overlapping pieces of hemlock bark.
