Douglas Gauthier has over 20 years of experience designing and building residential and institutional projects throughout the US and Europe. Numerous accolades include a Fulbright Scholarship, the Berlin Architekturpreis, The Architectural League’s Young Architect Award, a Graham Foundation grant, a NYSCA grant, Time Magazine Innovator of the Year, and an Architecture Magazine Visionary Architecture Award.

At MacDowell, he completed work on a larger book project entitled Parallel Modernism: Practice in the East Bloc.

Douglas Gauthier worked in the Wood studio.

Wood Studio, given to the residency program by Mrs. Frederick Trevor Hill, was completed in 1913 in memory of Mrs. Hill’s mother, Helen Ogden Wood.Like Schelling Studio, the building is sided with large, overlapping pieces of hemlock bark.
