Emily M. Danforth worked on her third novel, a kaleidoscopic queer historical that makes much use of Radclyffe Hall's censored-sapphic novel The Well of Loneliness. Danforth's debut young adult novel, The Miseducation of Cameron Post, won the 2012 Montana Book Award, the 2013 Nebraska Book Award in YA, and was a finalist for the American Library Association's Morris Award and a Lambda Literary Award. It was made into a movie of the same title in 2018.

Emily Danforth worked in the Irving Fine studio.

Youngstown Studio was given to MacDowell by friends of Miss Myra McKeown in Youngstown, OH, where she promoted both art and music. It was renamed Irving Fine Studio in 1972 in honor of Irving Fine, a distinguished composer, conductor, and teacher who was a MacDowell Fellow during the 1940s and 1950s.
