Eric Moe is a composer of concert music for a wide variety of ensembles. Recently premiered works include an opera, The Artwork of The Future (Fresh Squeezed Opera at HERE Art Center, NYC), and a piano concerto, The Sweetness of Despair, The Necessity of Hope, which premiered with Moe as a soloist with BMOP at Jordan Hall in Boston. The Artwork of The Future was recognized as Best AI Futurist Opera by the New York Classical Voice in 2023.
Other recently presented works include A Forest Unfolding, a collaborative eco-cantata with novelist Richard Powers and three other composers; and Deep Ecology, for solo cello and fixed electroacoustic media based on field recordings. His collaboration with novelist Angie Cruz, We Crossed the River, will be premiered in New York and Pittsburgh in May 2025.
At MacDowell in 2016, Moe worked on projects commissioned by the Network for New Music (Philadelphia) and EARPLAY (San Francisco). During his 2025 residency, he completed Girl Soup: Nakayasu Songs, a song cycle on poems by Sawako Nakayasu to be premiered in NYC in 2025 by Anna Elder and Huizi Zhang. He also began an instrumental quartet for the NYC ensemble counter)induction.
