Erin Flanagan is the author of two short story collections—The Usual Mistakes and It’s Not Going to Kill You and Other Stories—both published by The University of Nebraska Press. Her stories have appeared in Prairie Schooner, Colorado Review, The Missouri Review, The Connecticut Review, and elsewhere. She had held fellowships to Yaddo, MacDowell, The Sewanee Writers’ Conference, The Breadloaf Writers’ Conference, UCross, and The Vermont Studio Center.

Flanagan was born in Illinois and lived in a suburb of Chicago until she was four when the family moved to a farm in Iowa where she grew-up. Erin attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for all her degrees, graduating with a PhD in 2004. In 2005 she joined the faculty at Wright State University. She lives in Dayton, Ohio with her husband and two sons and a daughter.

Van Zorn (formerly Kirby)

Erin Flanagan worked in the Van Zorn (formerly Kirby) studio.

Constructed thanks to a bequest from Sarah L. Kirby, Kirby Studio was the last new building to be erected during Mrs. MacDowell’s leadership (1907-1951). The load-bearing masonry walls were laid by local mason Augustus Beaulieu atop a fieldstone foundation. A 1995 renovation preserved the brick fireplace with wooden mantel and…
