John Arrigo-Nelson's music has been performed and broadcast throughout the United States and Europe. Recent seasons have included the premieres of solo and chamber works in New York City, Houston, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati. His awards and recognition include a MacDowell Residency, Wellesley Composers Conference Fellowship, and Stony Brook University's Ackerman Prize. His music addresses ideas of timbral and temporal flexibility, and explores how contextual variation and fragmentation affect perception and function. John has studied at the Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt with Olga Neuwirth, Isabel Mundry, and Salvatore Sciarrino, and holds a Ph.D. from Stony Brook University, where his primary teachers were Daria Semegen and Sheila Silver. He is a member of the contemporary music collective Alia Musica Pittsburgh, serving on the artistic team, the board of directors, and as the ensemble's guitarist. John has been an adjunct faculty member at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana University South Bend, Suffolk County Community College, and Stony Brook University, teaching theory, musicianship, and composition.

Chapman

John Arrigo-Nelson worked in the Chapman studio.

Chapman Studio was funded by Mrs. Alice Woodrough Chapman in memory of her husband, composer George Alexander Chapman. Symmetrically massed, the building is stuccoed on the exterior with a natural, unpainted cement. Its unusual half-timbered ornament consists of slender, knotty spruce poles painted a dark green color. A central, peak-roofed entrance porch appears on the north side…
