Jonathan Ames is an American author who has written a number of novels and comic memoirs. He was a columnist for the New York Press and became known for self-deprecating tales of his sexual misadventures. He also has a long-time interest in boxing, appearing occasionally in the ring as “The Herring Wonder.” In 2009, he created the HBO television series “Bored to Death.” A graduate of Princeton University, he has an M.F.A. in fiction from Columbia University. He has been an infrequent faculty member at Columbia, The New School, and the Iowa Writers' Workshop.

Youngstown Studio was given to MacDowell by friends of Miss Myra McKeown in Youngstown, OH, where she promoted both art and music. It was renamed Irving Fine Studio in 1972 in honor of Irving Fine, a distinguished composer, conductor, and teacher who was a MacDowell Fellow during the 1940s and 1950s.
