Kamal Ayyildiz is a Turkish-American poet and visual artist living and working in New York. Ayyildiz has a master’s degree from Hollins University, and has received fellowships from the Edward Albee Foundation and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. His work has been exhibited and published in the United States and abroad. In 2005, Ayyildiz published a book of poetry, The Cistern, which was nominated by the Virginia Library Association for Best Poetry by a Virginia Author 2004.

Given to the residency by the Monday Music Club of Orange, NJ, Monday Music Studio is sited next to an enormous boulder deposited by glaciers thousands of years ago.
