Katie Arnold, a longtime writer for Outside Magazine, worked on her memoir, Running Home, about becoming an ultra distance runner in the wake of her father's death and daughter's birth. Running Home explores the healing power of wild places as well as the link between nature, creativity, and endurance; it was published by Random House in 2019.

Veltin Studio was donated by alumni of the Veltin School, a school for girls in New York with a highly respected visual arts department. As the plaque just outside the entrance attests, this studio was used by poet Edwin Arlington Robinson during most of the 24 summers he spent at MacDowell.
