Lisa Bateman is an American visual artist and curator living and working in New York. Bateman received degrees from the East Carolina University, and the Virginia Commonwealth University, and her work has been exhibited in several solo exhibitions, including the Next Year Installation at the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA, (2012-2014), the Wetlands-Maisolea for the National Resource Conservation Society, (2010), the Periscope Project for the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, (2005-2006), and the PACC and Bedford Stuyvesant public art/installation in the Halsey Houses in Brooklyn (1995). Bateman’s work has also been exhibited in numerous group exhibitions, including the w/ The Uni Project at the New Museum’s IDEA CITY in New York, and the Recontres International Video Festival Paris-Berlin in Paris. Her curatorial experience includes projects such as the P.S.1 Museum of Contemporary Art retrospective exhibition Jack Smith- Flaming Creature (1995-1999), and the Fales Library at New York University Jack Smith Files (2013). Bateman has held teaching positions at the Maine College of Art, Syracuse University, and the Pratt Institute. Bateman has received numerous awards and fellowships, including the Pollack-Krasner fellowship in 2001, and her work has been published in Teme Celeste magazine

Originally a working barn perched atop the namesake hill of Hillcrest Farm, this building was converted to serve the arts in 1956.
