Composer Mara Gibson is originally from Charlottesville, VA, graduated from Bennington College, and completed her Ph.D. at SUNY Buffalo. She has received grants and honors from the American Composer’s Forum, the Banff Center, Louisiana Division of the Arts, ArtsKC, Meet the Composer, the Kansas Arts Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts, the International Bass Society, ASCAP, and the John Hendrick Memorial Commission, Virginia Center for Creative Arts, MacDowell and Yale University. Internationally renowned ensembles and soloists have performed her music throughout the United States, Canada, South America, Asia, and Europe. Dr. Gibson teaches music composition at the LSU School of Music as associate professor. Previously, she was founder of the UMKC Composition Workshop and co-director/founder of ArtSounds. She released her first compilation CD ArtIfacts May 2015. Her second CD is scheduled to be released in November 2017 through PARMA Recordings. At MacDowell she composed Secret Sky, which will receive its second and third performances in fall of 2019. In October 2019, it will be recorded by the Athens Philharmonia Orchestra in Greece and be released as a part of a CD compilation in early 2020.

Delta Omicron

Mara Gibson worked in the Delta Omicron studio.

Delta Omicron Studio was funded by members of the international musical fraternity in 1927. The building design is somewhat medieval in character, with an unusual cedar shingle pattern, a steeply pitched slate roof, intersecting gables, and small windows.
