Sam White graduated from Colby College with a B.F.A. in painting, and earned an M.F.A. in poetry from the Iowa Writers Workshop. He has published poems in such journals as The Boston Review, The Paris Review, The Harvard Review, Ploughshares, American Letters & Commentary, and elsewhere. Slope Editions released his first book, The Goddess of the Hunt is Not Herself, in 2005. He co-founded and coordinated the Jubilat Reading Series in Somerville, MA and was featured for his practice of reading poems to passersby in Times Square in Poets & Writers. He has received fellowships from Vermont Studio Center and MacDowell. At work on several new books, he teaches at the University of Rhode Island.

Chapman

Sam White worked in the Chapman studio.

Chapman Studio was funded by Mrs. Alice Woodrough Chapman in memory of her husband, composer George Alexander Chapman. Symmetrically massed, the building is stuccoed on the exterior with a natural, unpainted cement. Its unusual half-timbered ornament consists of slender, knotty spruce poles painted a dark green color. A central, peak-roofed entrance porch appears on the north side…
