Sara Zarr is the acclaimed author of eight novels. During her time at MacDowell, she worked on her sixth book, Gem & Dixie, which was a finalist for the 2018 PEN America Los Angeles Literary Award. Her most recent works are Goodbye from Nowhere, a YA novel, and Courageous Creativity: Advice and Encouragement for the Creative Life, both published in 2020. Sara has written essays, creative nonfiction, and short fiction for Image, Hunger Mountain, Response, Gather, and Relief Journal as well as for several anthologies. She also recently rebooted her “This Creative Life” podcast. In the academic year 2020-2021, she will join the faculty of the Seattle Pacific University Low-Residency Creative Writing MFA program. She currently divides her time between Utah and California.
