William Thayer Ames (1901-1987) was a composer and pianist. He earned a B.A. in music from Harvard in 1924. During college he began to compose. In 1954 he was named composer and pianist for the dance department at Cornell University, a position that he would hold for eight years. In that same year he also received a Woodstock Foundation Grant. In 1962, Ames went to New York where he continued to work professionally as a pianist for various dance companies.
