The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, with book written by MacDowell Fellow Suzan-Lori Parks, is, of course, originally based on the DuBose and Dorothy Heyward novel of 1935. This latest incarnation of the American folk opera opened on Broadway in 2012.
