MacDowell Condemns Acts of Hate and Violence Against Asians and Pacific Islanders

- March 17, 2021

A message from our Executive Director on behalf of the MacDowell community:

MacDowell is an American cultural not-for-profit whose mission is to support and amplify the voices of all artists through residencies and fellowships. Today we stand with the Asian community in condemning all violence against Asians, Asian Americans, and Pacific Islanders, especially against AAPI women, who suffer the majority of this violence. While we will always look to the arts to provide identity, agency, and humanity to all people, today we mourn the lives of individuals lost to racism and bigotry. Eight people were murdered yesterday in Atlanta, six of them Asian. This is not an isolated incident. There is an alarming rise in anti-Asian harassment and hate crime. We must all decry these acts of racism. We must also work to understand and dismantle the systems of oppression that underlie them and all acts of intolerance. MacDowell believes in a more inclusive and equitable world for all artists and is committed to helping create it.
