Amanda Davis (1971-2003) was born in Durham, North Carolina and received a bachelor’s degree in theater from Wesleyan University and a master’s degree in fiction from Brooklyn College. Davis was a writer and an assistant professor at Mills College in Oakland, where she taught fiction-writing to undergraduates and graduate students. Her writings include Circling the Drain (1999), a collection 15 short stories, and Wonder When You’ll Miss Me (2003), a novel that Davis began writing during her MacDowell residency in 1999. In March 2003, Davis tragically died when the small plane that was taking her on a publicity tour crashed in North Carolina. She was 32 years old and lived in Oakland, California.

The yellow clapboard New Jersey Studio, located on a grassy, sloping site, was funded by the New Jersey Federation of Women’s Clubs and built as an exact replica of Monday Music Studio (1913).
