Christian Barter worked on a book-length poem and a second collection of poetry. That book, In Someone Else's House, was the winner of the 2014 Maine Literary Award for Poetry. His first book, The Singers I Prefer, was a finalist for the Lenore Marshall Prize in 2006.

Christian Barter worked in the Sorosis studio.

Sorosis Studio was funded by the New York Carol Club of Sorosis. The small, masonry studio was designed by F. Winsor, Jr., the architect who also designed Savidge Library (1926) and Mixter Studio (1927).
