Composer David MacBride (1951-2018) was an American composer and pianist who has written numerous works, ranging from solo and chamber to orchestral music, with particular emphasis on music for percussion. MacBride grew up in Berkley, CA, and attended University of Hartford for his undergraduate studies. He received a doctorate from Columbia University. His works have been performed across the country and internationally. The Hartford Symphony, the Arditti String Quartet, League ISCM, Percussive Arts Society International Convention, World Saxophone Congress, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center have all played his compositions. He loved to create percussion-focused works for the Hartford community that inspired people to come together, including a work entitled Percussion Park, in which audience members were invited to explore the exhibition in search of the music. He regularly performed in schools and senior citizen homes, and received a 2001 University of Hartford Community Service Award in recognition of his contributions. MacBride became a beloved professor at the University of Hartford where he taught composition and musical theory.
