Dr. Erin Tapley is an award winning artist and art educator. She is a professor of art education at Western Carolina University and has been there since 2005. She received her bachelor's in art from Skidmore College, her M.F.A. in printmaking from the University of Alabama and her Ph.D. in art education from the University of Iowa.

She has received awards as an artist and art educator including a Fulbright Grant, two National Endowments for the Humanities grants, A MacDowell Fellowship and a Teacher Incentive Grant from the National Art Education Association.

At MacDowell, Erin worked on a series of lithographs and other prints to be shown in installation form at Gallery 100 in Missouri, Overbrook Gallery in Michigan, and Burnell Roberts Gallery in Ohio.

The Graphics Studio (as it was originally named) was converted to its present use in 1972–1974 through a grant from the Putnam Foundation, and originally served the property as both a power house and pump house.
