Gabriella Burnham is the author of It Is Wood, It Is Stone, which was published by One World, an imprint of Random House, in June 2020. Based in Brooklyn, she grew up on Nantucket Island off the coast of Cape Cod and is the daughter of a Brazilian immigrant. At MacDowell she worked on a novel that takes place on an island that is withering away from climate-related catastrophes. The wealthy tourists who travel there are desperate to preserve their once exclusive vacation destination. The story centers on a local woman named Elise whose job is to protect an endangered bird species that lays eggs on the beaches.
