Jessica Shi is finishing a collection of short stories titled Female Muscle: No Experience Necessary. The stories explore migration, lineage, and questions of identity and belonging among first-generation Chinese Americans. At MacDowell, Jessica worked on the first draft of her novel, Fortune Laundry, which follows three generations of a Chinese American family in California during sixty-plus years of Chinese Exclusion.

Marian MacDowell and friends named this studio in memory of Anna Baetz, the nurse who helped care for Edward MacDowell in the waning years of his life.
