Michael Berkowitz is a New York based painter, sculptor, performing artist, and photographer. He has travelled in some 90 countries in search of adventure and inspiration. His work revolves around religious themes, and has a fair amount of renown in that field, and is in the permanent collections of The Jewish Museum, The Yeshiva University Museum, and The Hebrew Union College, in addition to many other museums. In 2005 his first book of photographs, Erotic Flashback, was published internationally by Goliath Books. He is currently working on a second book.

Michael Berkowitz worked in the Adams studio.

Given to the MacDowell Association by Margaret Adams of Chicago, the half-timbered, stuccoed Adams Studio was designed by MacDowell Fellow and architect F. Tolles Chamberlin ca. 1914.
