Nelda Barchers is an American painter, sculptor and visual artist born in Peoria, IL, and working in the San Francisco Bay area. Barchers received a degree in fine arts from the Rhode Island School of Design, and then worked as a retail executive in the arts before leaving retail to focus primarily on creating, promoting, and selling her work. While in retail, Barchers worked as a freelance textile designer for the Leavitt, Watterston Corporation in Woodstock, CT, as the owner, manager, and buyer for Zosaku Fine Crafts in Berkeley, CA, and as a freelance greeting card designer for the Marcel Schurman Company in Fairfield, CA. Barchers’ wire sculptures are exhibited at galleries in the San Francisco Bay area.

Given to the MacDowell Association by Margaret Adams of Chicago, the half-timbered, stuccoed Adams Studio was designed by MacDowell Fellow and architect F. Tolles Chamberlin ca. 1914.
