While at MacDowell, Rachel Hoeffel worked on a play based on some of the writings of Soren Kierkegaard entitled, The Crisis and A Crisis in the Life of an Actress.

Her plays have been shown at The Flea Theater, Soho Rep, Ensemble Studio Theater and Tonic's Little Theater in NYC. She is a founding member of the Hooch Kids, a directing, performing playwright's collective in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Marian MacDowell and friends originally named this studio in memory of Anna Baetz, the nurse who helped care for Edward MacDowell in the waning years of his life.
