Sabine Heinlein is a freelance journalist based in New York. In 2010 she spent three weeks at MacDowell working on her narrative non-fiction book Among Murderers: Life After Prison, which was published by the University of California Press in 2013.

In the winter of 1998, motivated by his passion for reading, Stanford Calderwood donated funds for a new writers’ studio.
