At MacDowell, Yance Ford was in production on Strong Island, a feature documentary with support from Cinereach, the Sundance Documentary Fund, and Chicken and Egg Pictures. The film premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival and received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film. In 2011, Ford was selected as one of Filmmaker Magazine's "25 New Faces of Independent Film." During the day, Yance produces the PBS documentary series POV.

The yellow clapboard New Jersey Studio, located on a grassy, sloping site, was funded by the New Jersey Federation of Women’s Clubs and built as an exact replica of Monday Music Studio (1913).
