Yee Jan Bao (1947- 2014) was an artist and educator who was born in Shanghai, China, and worked in the United States. Bao received degrees in visual art from Grinnell College and Claremont College. His work has been exhibited at numerous galleries, including PS1, Stephen Rosenberg Gallery and Trabia Macafee in New York, and Betsy Rosenfield in Chicago. Bao’s work has been reviewed in many publications, such as Art in America, Artforum, the Village Voice, the Chicago Tribune, and the Chicago Sun-Times, and he has received grants from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, and the Chicago Arts Council. Additionally, Bao taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Rhode Island School of Design, the University of Texas, the University of Chicago, and the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
